Experience Moreton Island
Moreton Island, otherwise known as “The Gem of South East Queensland”, is your one stop shop for adventure this summer. Just at Brisbane’s doorstep, you’ll find the perfect coastal holiday to reinvigorate the explorer within. From scuba-diving tours to shipwreck adventures, you’ll never have a dull moment on this slice of sandy paradise.
1. Meet the marine locals
Moreton Island is home to an incredibly diverse and vibrant ecosystem of marine animals. Come face-to-face with the gentle Bottlenose Dolphin, float alongside the local Sea Turtles or spot the harmless Wobbegong Shark as it scours the sea floor for a little snack. Adventure Moreton Island offers snorkelling hires, glass bottom boat cruises and scuba tours to get you up close and personal with the friendly marine residents.

2. Explore the shipwrecks
While the deserted Tangalooma Shipwrecks laying abandoned at the shores of Moreton Island look like they have a harrowing tale of the high seas, they are actually much more functional. In 1963 the shipwrecks came about as an intentional man-made harbour. These 15 junk ships were buried in a sandbank off Moreton Island to act as a safe anchorage point which created a break-wall, serving as a sanctuary to protect smaller boats. What wasn’t planned for was the thriving coral and marine life that would take residency within its sunken structure.
The wrecks are now a haven for more than 100 species of fish, as well as a playground for the resident dolphins, wobbegongs and dugongs. A Tangalooma Wrecks Adventure Tour is the tick you need to get exploring this beautiful underwater world. With your choice of three different activities, you can experience the relic from all angles
